This picture symbolizes not only the dawning of a new millennium, but also the hope that we all have in our daily lives.  With this issue of Surviving Cancer in Greater Washington DC, we are initiating the first in a continuing series on wellness topics, which we call Mind, Body and Spirit.   The first of these subjects deals with the potential benefits of therapeutic massage for cancer survivors.

Cathie Vonesh, a GWWCS member, is studying to receive Maryland State certification in Massage Therapy.  She dedicates her article to Edie Dunn, a long-time friend from New Jersey who died from ovarian cancer. 

“Edie’s many difficulties moved me to do something close to home for those with cancer or other health conditions.  I am thankful to her and many others who intimately shared with me what they learned from

their illness about the meaning of life.”

Future editions of this newsletter will address related wellness topics such as nutrition, spirituality and emotional support.  On the back page of this issue, there is also a listing of selected wellness resources, with their addresses, phone numbers and web sites.

Considering Massage Therapy
